When newly laid, the Doussie floor has a golden or reddish hue. Then, as time goes by, the colours deepen while the grain becomes more even.
Timber of doussie when fresh is golden brown or reddish, but colour turns darker due to the sunlight equalising colour variances in the timber. Grain pattern is often intertwined. A characteristic of doussie is moderate shrinking and swelling due to changes in air humidity.
Species (Afzelia pipindensis) distribution is Africa, mainly Cameroon. Doussie grows to a height of 30 m with a trunk diameter of 90 - 120 cm.
Brinell-hardness 3,7 - 4,3.
Doussie may contain small amounts of resin, which shows as light spots on the wood's surface.
