Karelia Impressio Series of Hardwood Floors has won the renowned international design award, red dot. This is already the second time when Karelia-Upofloor wins a red dot award, in 2009 Saima Raita and Wirkkala won the same award. The award-winning Karelia Impressio Series consists of eight 1-strip oak hardwood floors with special treatments, which form four pairs to complement and contrast with each other. The pairs are different enough to evoke thoughts and attention in multiple ways. They combine innovative product design and interior decoration trends. The pairs of the Impressio Series are white Sugar and black Liquorice; metallic-shine Stonewashed Gold and Platinum; aging-treated Aged Oak Silky and Aged Oak Stonewashed Ivory as well as graphical black-and-white Volcanic Ash and worn-looking Stonewashed Black Fade. With more than 1700 companies from 61 countries with 4430 submissions in 2011, the international "red dot design award" is the largest and most renowned design competition in the world. The award is divided into three categories: the "red dot award: product design", the "red dot award: communication design" and the "red dot award: design concept." The award-winning products are put before an international public in the red dot design museum. An international jury reviews and evaluates the submitted products according to criteria such as degree of innovation, functionality and the formal quality. This ensures the seriousness of the competition and its international acceptance. The award is as a seal of quality; it stands for membership of the best in design and business.
